"REEL TO REAL: PORTRAYALS AND PERCEPTIONS OF GAYS IN HOLLYWOOD" EXHIBITION EXTENDED AT THE HOLLYWOOD MUSEUMTHROUGH SEPTEMBER 28

Due to popular demand, The Hollywood Museum is pleased to announce that "Reel to Real: Portrayals and Perceptions of Gays in Hollywood" - an entertaining and informative retrospective of LGBT images in film and television throughout the decades - has been extended to September 28. 

Launched in June in honor of LGBT Heritage Month, this exclusive exhibition features photos, costumes, props and iconic imagery and provides a unique perspective on how gays have been portrayed in Hollywood from early stereotypes to modern representations. Reel to Real is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and The Hollywood Reporter(media sponsor).

Some of the items displayed in the exhibition include:
• A tribute to television shows associated with such award-winning LGBT craftsmen as Amy Feldman, Art Director for 2 Broke Girls; Norman Buckley, Director for Pretty Little Liars; Ron Franco, Set Decorator for True Blood 
• Tuxedo costumes from the Days of Our Lives gay wedding, the first between two men on a soap opera
• Pink coffin from True Blood designed by LGBT set decorator Ron Franco to look like a Chanel handbag 
• Michael Douglas' sequined Liberace suit from Behind the Candelabra (2013)
• The Roddy McDowall Powder Room 
• Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s on-set chairs from Milk (2008) are showcased along with his numerous awards and Oscar® for Best Screenplay 
• Cocktail dress belonging to LGBT and AIDS activist Elizabeth Taylor
• Photo wall with images of actors who have portrayed iconic gay characters in TV and film including Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family); Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain); Sean Hayes and Eric McCormack (Will & Grace); Nathan Lane and Robin Williams (The Birdcage) and Sean Penn and James Franco (Milk) 

OTHER NOTABLE EXHIBITS ON DISPLAY:

And the Nominees Are..Emmys 2014 (July 23 - Sep. 14)
The largest exhibition of its kind, this exhibition features costumes and props from more than 20 Emmy-nominated shows. On display are clothing from The Blacklist, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Dancing with the Stars, Fargo, The Good Wife, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men, Modern Family, The Newsroom, The Normal Heart, Nurse Jackie, Orange is the New Black, Project Runway, Scandal, Sleepy Hollow, True Blood and The Walking Dead.

Marilyn: The Exhibit (June 22 - August 31)
Commemorating the 52nd anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's passing, this annual retrospective spans Marilyn's early life as Norma Jeane to Hollywood mega star, showcasing her gorgeous gowns, jewelry and personal artifacts. Visit the For Blondes Only Room where Max Factor originally created Monroe's sexy blonde look!

Planet of the Apes (ongoing)
Contains costumes from Dawn of the Plane of the Apes (2014), the iconic ape costumes and prosthetics from the original Planet of the Apes (1968), the huge space pod and Mark Wahlberg's space suit from Tim Burton's 2001 remake.

100 Years of Hal Roach Studios (July 5 - August 31)
The 100 Years of Hal Roach Studios: Laurel & Hardy, 'Our Gang' and Harold Lloyd exhibit contains authentic photos, costumes and props from the rich history of Hal Roach Studios and the legendary talents that emanated from there in the early 1900's. 

ABOUT THE HOLLYWOOD MUSEUM IN THE HISTORIC MAX FACTOR BUILDING: The Hollywood Museum in the Historic Max Factor Building houses over 10,000 real showbiz treasures and the most extensive collection of Hollywood costumes, star cars, props, posters, photographs and memorabilia in the world with over 100 years of Hollywood history. From Marilyn Monroe's costumes, the official Walk of Fame Exhibit to Hannibal Lecter's jail cell movie set from The Silence of the Lambs, The Hollywood Museum is also home to Max Factor's world-famous makeup rooms where Marilyn Monroe received her famous blonde locks and Lucille Ball first donned her famous red hair. The Hollywood Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
